Laptops for Kalikot – How We Connected with the Oda Foundation

Sometimes the most meaningful connections happen by chance. When we asked Tanja from kanthari Switzerland whether she could take some laptops along on her next trip to kanthari India , her answer caught us off guard: "I'm actually flying to Nepal – and they need laptops there too." Without hesitation, we packed four devices – and the journey began.

The laptops made their way to Kalikot, one of the most remote regions of Nepal, reaching Karan Singh and his Oda Foundation. Karan built the organization from a place of personal pain: as a child, he watched his father walk for hours to reach a hospital – only to be turned away because the family couldn't afford the 25 USD treatment fee. At just 12 years old, Karan left for India himself, working his way up from dishwasher to hotel manager – and returning home every year with books and medicine. In 2023, he completed the kanthari Change Maker Program – the very connection that eventually led him to us.

Today, the Oda Foundation runs schools, a hospital and income-generating projects for women. And the four laptops? Karan put them straight into the hands of those who need them most: the school's computer lab – and scholarship students supported by the Oda Foundation. One is studying in Kathmandu, another is completing medical training. Karan was overjoyed and deeply grateful to receive the devices.

Four laptops may sound like a small gesture. But behind each one is a person gaining knowledge – and perhaps one day giving something back.
